Liverpool leading Butland chase

Liverpool are leading Arsenal in the race to sign Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland, according to the Daily Star.

The England international has been linked with a £40m move away from the Bet 365 outfit and both Jurgen Klopp and Arsene Wenger have been linked with a move for a new shot-stopper in recent times.

However it is the Merseyside outfit who have been installed as favourites to secure the services of the twenty-four year old.

Butland moved to Stoke from Birmingham City in the summer of 2013 and has since racked up seventy-seven appearances in all competitions while he has been capped just six times for his country having made his debut in 2012.

However, he is expected to add to that tally this year with him seemingly the front runner to be E…

Prediction: Wales vs Denmark

Best Odds: 10/11

Bookmaker:

With a spot in the quarter-finals of this summer s European Championships up for grabs this weekend, Wales and Denmark will face off in Amsterdam on Saturday evening.

Wales

Starting with Wales, while caretaker boss Robert Page might have seen his side suffer that 1-0 defeat away at a high-flying Italy last weekend, The Dragons once again impressed on foreign soil. With no nation at this summer s tournament having to travel further than the British outfit, they did manage to secure their spot out of Group A with a second-place finish. Boosted by that lively 2-0 win against a struggling Turkey in Baku on June 16th and muster themselves four points, the mood in Wales camp should be at a real high. Although their temporary boss might hav…

Casilla close to joining Leeds

According to a report from Marca, Kiko Casilla is on the verge of completing his move to English football. The Real Madrid goalkeeper is close to joining Leeds United, who are currently in pole position to gain promotion from the Championship to the Premier League. Casilla is believed to be their first choice and would continue to be so throughout the course of their stay in the top flight, if they do indeed gain promotion.

Fraser Forster and Emiliano Martinez are two other names who have been linked with a move to Leeds, but Casilla is certainly the frontrunner.

The 32 year old has been with Real since back in 2015, but he’s been used pretty sporadically in that time. He made a name for himself during an eight year spell with Espanyol, before being bought back by the…

Beating the best team in the world? Pretty good, says Klopp

Jurgen Klopp delighted in Liverpool s 3-0 thumping of Manchester City at Anfield but is keen not to make Pep Guardiola s side angry ahead of next week s return leg in the all-English Champions League quarter-final.

Liverpool became the only side to beat champions-elect City in the Premier League this season when they stormed to a 4-3 triumph in January and Guardiola s men underwent an even more spectacular Merseyside unravelling on Wednesday.

Mohamed Salah s 38th goal of the season set Liverpool on their way after 11 minutes and, as he did in the league encounter, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain brought the Kop to its feet with a brilliant long-range strike.

Sadio Mane headed in a third after the half-hour as the hosts ran riot but Klopp was keen not to be drawn on his p…

Guardiola: Front two of Alvarez and Haaland may be needed to break teams down

Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez playing together could help Manchester City to break down teams who sit back against them, according to Pep Guardiola.

City lost ground in the title race on Saturday after drawing 1-1 at home to struggling Everton, with leaders Arsenal then extending their advantage at the Premier League summit to seven points with a 4-2 victory at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Haaland had given City the lead against the Toffees, but Demarai Gray scored a superb strike to peg the champions back and hold them to just a point, putting another dent in their title hopes after losing at home to Brentford in the final game before the World Cup break.

In his attempts to win the game, Guardiola brought on World Cup winner Alvarez up top with Haaland in the 8…

Haaland to Premier League wouldn’t surprise Dortmund – Zorc

If Erling Haaland leaves Borussia Dortmund this summer to join a Premier League club, it won t come as a complete surprise to anyone at the Bundesliga club, Dortmund director of football Michael Zorc told Sky in Germany.

Having arrived to the Signal Iduna Park from RB Salzburg back in January 2020 for a reported fee of €20 million, the Norwegian quickly became a sensation, scoring 82 goals along with contributing 23 assists in 86 matches in all competitions for the club. His contract at Dortmund has two years left to run, but it apparently contains a release clause set at €75m undoubtedly a bargain price. However, his services also come with huge wages and agent fees, and many top clubs are believed to have been put off by the expensiveness of the entire package.

Lautaro Martinez turned down ´lucrative offers´ to stay at Inter

Inter expect Lautaro Martinez to stay at San Siro after he turned down lucrative offers from rival clubs, according to club CEO Beppe Marotta.

The Nerazzurri began their Serie A title defence on Saturday with a 4-0 win over Genoa, but there were significant changes to the side that won the Scudetto last season.

New signings Hakan Calhanoglu and Edin Dzeko were among the scorers, with Simone Inzaghi in the dugout for the first time.

Antonio Conte, Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi all left Inter, and Martinez was also linked with a move away, Tottenham considered potential suitors.

However, the Argentina international – absent against Genoa, having won the Copa America in the off-season – appears certain to remain at Inter.

Marotta, speaking bef…

McShane among six released by Hull

Paul McShane is one of six players who will leave Hull City following the club s relegation from the Premier League.

The 29-year-old initially moved to the KC Stadium on loan in 2008 and went on to make 118 league appearances.

McShane is joined by Liam Rosenior, Yannick Sagbo, Maynor Figueroa, Steve Harper and Joe Dudgeon in departing the club following the expiry of their contracts.

Defender Alex Bruce and midfielder Stephen Quinn, meanwhile, have been offered new deals.

Regrettably, following relegation we have made the decision to release the majority of those players whose contracts have expired, manager Steve Bruce told the club s official website.

We would like to place on record our thanks for the service they have given to the clu…

Liverpool need to be patient with Konate, says Ljinders ahead of Norwich clash

Jurgen Klopp s assistant Pep Ljinders called for Liverpool to be patient with new signing Ibrahima Konate ahead of their EFL Cup tie with Norwich City.

The centre-back joined for a fee reported to be in the region of £36million (€42.5m) from RB Leipzig in the off-season and made his top-flight debut against Crystal Palace on Saturday, though he remains behind Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip in the pecking order.

However, Ljinders suggested Van Dijk was an exception to the rule as he used Andy Robertson as an example of how long it can take to settle into life at Anfield.

Robbo said to him [Konate] we all needed time to adjust to the style , Ljinders told Monday s news conference.

Virgil is probably one of the only ones to come and settle …

City bought Guardiola four full-backs! – Mourinho aims dig at Man Utd transfer policy

Jose Mourinho has highlighted the investment made in Manchester City and Liverpool s squads in a thinly veiled dig at Manchester United s transfer policy during his time in charge.

Although United splashed a reported £75million on Romelu Lukaku from Everton during his time in charge, Mourinho was left increasingly frustrated by what he perceived to be a lack of backing in the market by the Old Trafford board.

United have won seven games out of seven since Mourinho s sacking, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer presiding over a perfect record during his spell as interim replacement.

But Mourinho used an appearance as a television pundit on beIN SPORTS on Saturday to highlight the spending lavished on Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp s squads.

In the first season, G…
